Curator Tessa Giblin has been in Dunedin earlier this year bringing and installing five different artists installations literally into the streets as a part of Gridlocked On Tour. Giblin says, “I am quite interested in a number of young artists who are working convincingly in the dealer scene as well as being interested in incidental positionings on the true verge of artworld practice.” She is back at the Blue Oyster with a project called Mobile.
"Mobile is a one-night event. A telephone line from the gallery offers visitors an intimate, solitary connection with artists from around New Zealand. Between 5.30 –7pm, [ish] on Tuesday 26th October, visitors to the Blue Oyster Gallery in Dunedin are invited to call the mobile phones of artists Kah-Bee Chow, Scott Flanagan, Daniel Malone, Richard Maloy, Sriwhana Spong, and Yuk King Tan. The art works encountered during this call are unpredictable, ranging from orchestrated conversation to being the catalyst for some further performance. Whilst being one of the most important tools in our working lives, telephones can also be the receptacle for incredibly intimate exchanges – they can provide a route to solace, they connect people in different locations, time zones and modes of conduct, and they channel your experience into the mono-sensory realm of aural communication."
